Description:

Highly Strung is a spectacular outdoor event featuring a giant 15-meter tall marionette, live aerial performance and cutting edge interactive projections.

For the Festival

Highly Strung running nightly will create a spectacular (family friendly) centrepiece for any major festival. Though, in stature, it dwarfs King Kong, this giant puppet is, in fact, a small frightened child and the show explores the doubts and fear from a child’s perspective. Highly Strung can either be mounted as is or run as a series of workshops with local children in the lead up to the festival creating fresh visuals for the show based upon their own doubts and fears, giving them a chance to explore these anxieties as as they do so.

For the audience.

Come and see the biggest puppet you’re ever likely to see. Made of lightweight fabric the puppet literally rises up out of the ground at the start of the show until she towers 15 meters tall above the intimidated audience. And then, as she speaks there is the revelation that, in spite of her stature, this  is in fact a frightened child. Suddenly the perspective is flipped. She is small and vulnerable and and for the remained of the show the audience hopes for her as she grapples to deal with universal fears everyone can empathise with.

History

Highly Strung, directed by Award winning artist Dave Jones was created and performed at the 2011 Nati Frinj Festival in Natimuk in collaboration with aerial performance company Y-Space and the Natimuk Primary school.
