Balance

[ssba]

Part game, part play, part puppet-show, with an exciting blend of puppetry, electronics, animation and live theatre, Balance is a new work with a strong environmental message that gets children actively involved in the exploration of sustainability, recycling and alternative power generation.

Description:

With the island’s aging power-station in terminal decline, the audience must help the islanders find alternative means to get their island back on track. Along with their ideas, the children will literally be generating the energy for anything that happens on the island. The narrator slowly draws the audience into the islanders’ world, raising important questions and bringing attention to new events as they come to light. As the story progresses, and the stakes are raised, more and more elements are brought into play. It becomes a complicated juggling act and the children will need to find the most efficient path to save the island.

Created with the Assistance of the Australian Children’s Theatre Foundation (2015), Balance presents the audience with a miniature world-in-peril that can only be saved be the ideas, teamwork and sweat of the audience. Balance explores the ideas behind sustainable power generation, giving the audience a hands on experience and a chance to step up and save the world. targeted primarily at the late-primary/early high-school demographic, Balance has played successfully to delighted audiences of all ages.
